SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Two men charged with stealing an SUV and burglarizing more than 30 vehicles were sentenced Thursday. Jonathan Burkett, 24, of Tyler and Jeremy Junkins. 20, of Whitehouse, were arrested in January.

On January 14, officers responded to a residence on Tipperary Drive around 3:10 a.m. after a Chevy Tahoe was reported stolen.

Investigators later found the vehicle and inside located stolen items worth several thousand dollars. That led Tyler police to determine just how many auto burglaries Burkett and Junkins are responsible for. Through evidence located in their vehicle, police have been able to clear 18 auto burglary cases in Tyler, 14 auto burglary cases in Smith County and three auto burglary cases in Kilgore.

The men pleaded guilty to multiple counts of theft, as well as burglary. Burkett, who has a criminal history, will have to serve 20 years in prison. Junkins will have to serve five years.
