A 14-year-old boy from the Huffman area lost his leg as a result of a boating incident that occurred Wednesday night on Houston County Lake.
Houston County Sheriff Darrel Bobbitt said the boy’s name is Clint Crane. Crane is in stable but serious condition in the intensive care unti at East Texas medical Center - Crockett.
Chief Deputy G.P. Shearer with the Houston County Sheriff's Office said that authorities were called out to Houston County Lake near the Golden Acres subdivision at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday in response to a report that a 14-year-old boy had fallen off a boat and gotten his leg cut severely by the propeller.
Bobbitt said several doctors who live around the lake worked to help the injured boy until emergency personnel got to the scene. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office, the Crockett Fire Department, and Grapeland EMS responded to the 911 call.
Crane was taken to ETMC-Crockett and was supposed to be airlifted to another hospital for treatment, but the weather prevented that from happening, Shearer said. The chief deputy said the doctors were unable to save the boy’s leg, so they amputated it.
