GREENVILLE, SC (WIS) -

The Gamecocks have announced a scholarship named after former Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore.

The scholarship will be provided by an endowment from the Garnet Way Campaign given by the David Glenn family of Greenville. According to the Gamecocks Athletics Department, the scholarship will be awarded to a deserving football walk-on student-athlete displaying the highest character and integrity while exhibiting exemplary leadership skills.

"We are thankful for the Glenn Family's commitment to our University and football program," USC Athletics Director Ray Tanner said. "Marcus is a great Gamecock and this scholarship is a terrific way to recognize his legacy at South Carolina."

The former Byrnes High standout earned second-team All-America honors as a true freshman while being a unanimous National Freshman of the Year selection. Lattimore was also a first-team All-SEC performer after posting 1,197 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns.

Lattimore's career with the Gamecocks was abbreviated following a severe knee injury against Tennessee. Still, the former Heisman trophy candidate managed to become the sixth in school history with 2,677 rushing yards, fourth with 555 carries, third in points scored (246), tied for second with 11 career 100-yard rushing games, and the all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (38), total touchdowns (41).

He later went on to be drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2013 NFL Draft.

"Marcus has been an inspiration to many, including our family," said David Glenn. "It is our pleasure to give this gift to the athletics' program in his honor."
