KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

Do you ever get the urge to play the piano while you’re out on the street? Well, if you do, you may want to walk in downtown Kilgore where you can tickle the ivories while you’re waiting to cross the street.

We just had to see how well the outdoor piano was being received.

“Have you ever seen a piano outside before?” I asked Micah Goodner, who just happened to be in Kilgore.

“No. Is there a reason why there is one?” Goodner asked.

Kilgore employee John White stopped by and answered, “Anything to get people to come down here and have fun is a good thing.”

“It’s kind of a talker, though,” I said to Scott Nowack as he walked by.

“It is. It’s got a lot to say as you look at it,” Scott laughed.

“Okay, here we go,” said Tori Whitwell as she stepped up to the keyboard and played a little.

I was waiting for the spontaneous band to break out, but it never did happen.

“So do you think it’s a good idea to have a piano outside?” I asked Nowack.

“No. No, I don’t,” Nowack laughed.

“That key’s not even working,” Nowack observed pushing a dead ey.

“Don’t do that again,” I said, “I think it’s causing the rain.”

“Now it’s getting wet,” Nowack stated.

“It’s going to get ruined,” I said.

Actually the piano is pretty worn out and nearly beyond repair, but it still works.

“Music is great. Music is something we all need to have in our lives. It makes us feel alive,” Nowack concluded.

The piano is something you might want to keep in mind next time you’re in Kilgore, whether you play or not. It will certainly bring you a smile.

The piano was placed there and decorated by Kilgore’s Main Street Program. If it’s well received they may place more pianos downtown. The piano is at the corner of Kilgore Street and Main Street, and has been since June 23.
