A Gilmer man is in jail on multiple charges after leading Gladewater police officers on a chase on Tuesday.
Alvin Charles McKnight, 32, of Gilmer, was arrested by Gladewater police and is charged with evading arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, theft of a firearm, tampering with identification numbers and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Gladewater Police Chief Robert Vine says the Upshur County Sheriff's Office issued an alert for officers to be on the lookout for a vehicle whose driver was suspected of being involved in an aggravated assault. Gladewater police spotted the vehicle around 10 p.m. on Tuesday and attempted to stop it. The driver sped off with officers in pursuit.
Authorities were finally able to stop the car outside of White Oak, where they arrested McKnight.
