"He always had the words to say, he always knew when you were in trouble and needed comfort," Rodney's teammate at Groveton Charles Cockrell said. "He meant something to everybody, and this town is in mourning not because of a football hero, but because a friend they all lost."
"I feel blessed to have played with someone like that," former Texas A&M teammate Clif Groce said. "Not only to have played, but to be a real friend to somebody like that." Rodney's former A&M coach R.C. Slocum added,"In his short 41 years, he made a tremendous impact. He touched so many lives and he touched them in a positive way so he might have gotten his work done."
