TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Stewart Family Funeral Home says that local businessman Ed King has passed away.

King was owner of Tyler area Chick-Fil-A restaurants. He was 77 years old. We will share more details as they are shared by family.

King was a philanthropist in East Texas. One viewer said of him, "Mr. King has a kind and loving spirit. His philosophy on giving back to his community makes him a very special individual. For his kindness and continued support of groups and organizations, specifically those from our local schools, he is most deserving to be recognized as an everyday hero. We all benefit and are inspired to have him as a member of our community!"

King served on the board of directors for the Meals on Wheels. He was also active with the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.

"...Ed King truly understood the mission of The Salvation Army and supported it in every way. We are eternally grateful for who he was and take comfort in knowing that he was promoted to Glory...from angel on Earth to angel in Heaven. Our prayers are with his family and friends at this time," said the Salvation Army in a statement.
