Heads up cashier recognizes missing teen and wanted sex offender

GROSSE TETE, LA (WAFB) -

A store clerk at a truck stop is being credited with helping to end the search for a wanted convicted sex offender and the missing teenage girl with him.

Fawn Domingue, a cashier at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, recognized the man and girl she had seen on a friend's Facebook page from a story featured on "Nancy Grace." The woman happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Domingue told her boss, Scott Holbrook, the pair was Steven Myers, 41, and Ashley Lyon, 16, both of Florida. Holbrook said the pair walked in to the Iberville Parish store around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

"Somehow, she had an email from Nancy Grace or from a friend, sent it to her and it was a description of these two people that they were being searched," said Holbrook. "So, once they get inside the store, Fawn recognizes them from the text that she got about the Nancy Grace that showed … That's him there walking into the store. She's moving sort of slow. I think she recognized them really fast."

According to Holbrook, Domingue then went to the back of the store to get a better look at her phone so she could confirm the people actually were who she thought they were. Holbrook admitted he didn't know what was going on. He said he sold them a pack of cigarettes and they looked fine like nothing was wrong with the girl.

He said Myers and Lyon then left the store just as Domingue was walking out of the office. He said she felt confident it was the same people and asked him to call police because the girl was an abductee out of Florida. He added the vehicle the pair was riding in was parked by the restaurant and headed toward a nearby tire shop.

Holbrook said a deputy quickly arrived and Domingue told him about Myers and Lyon and also pointed to where they were. He said the deputy then turned on his lights in an attempt to stop them and question them, but the suspect drove off.

Authorities said Myers led them on a 40-mile chase down I-10 East that ended in Lafayette. At last check, both Lyon and Myers were listed in serious but stable condition.

    A man was killed in a one-vehicle wreck in Harrison County. According to a press release, a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling eastbound on US-80 when the vehicle went off the south side of the roadway and struck a tree.
