Snipe Season Underway In East Texas

Deer and duck season are both in full swing, but another lesser known hunting season is also underway. The tradition of "snipe" hunting, which is a unique rite of passage for many young people.

"Snipe hunting, a time honored tradition for hunters, proves your worth and patience as a hunter," says Texas Game Warden Cris Green.

Tongue firmly planted in cheek, Green says, "The keys to snipe hunting are to remember to stay low, be still and remember to whistle every once in a while."

Snipe hunting, as most of us know, is a prank that's been repeated over and over again.
But the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has the season listed on its official web site. According to what we found on the internet, there really is such a thing as a "snipe".

Snipe hunting season runs from October 30 to February 13.
