In May we told you Schmidt was transporting a female through Titus County when she was able to get free from Schmidt and jumped from his moving vehicle, a Chevy Astro van, moving vehicle in an attempt to get away. This was according to the Titus County Sheriff. Schmidt was assaulting and threatening to kill the victim while driving on Highway 271, deputies say. She survived the jump from Schmidt’s moving vehicle and was found by a passing motorist on the side of Highway 271 and transported to ETMC in Pittsburg for treatment.

Authorities say the victim positively identified her kidnapper as Ryan Jacob Schmidt and stated that if she had not jumped from the moving vehicle, she felt that Schmidt would have followed through with his threats to kill her. The victim told police that she prayed and asked God to help her, and then jumped from the moving vehicle. Witnesses, who were driving behind’s Schmidt’s vehicle on Highway 271 at approximately 75 mph, said that Schmidt was swerving all over the road, and then they observed a woman fall out of the vehicle. Witnesses said that Schmidt did not stop after the victim came out Schmidt’s vehicle, but kept driving toward Mount Pleasant.
