TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Salvation Army's Beat the Heat Fan Drive was a big success, gathering nearly three hundred fans for East Texans who have no air conditioning.

The Salvation Army partnered with KVNE/KGLY Christian radio, ETR Air Conditioning and Heating, Lowe's and Chick-fil-A for the fan drive this year, and ETR matched the first 100 fans collected during the drive. 192 fans were collected, so the total donation for the Salvation Army was 292 fans.

“We are very proud to be partnering with The Salvation Army on this cause and would like to thank all of our loyal customers and friends that donated a fan,” said Todd Green, owner of ETR. “As the fan drive grows each year, we are hoping that our donation can as well.”

The Salvation Army gives away an average of about 60 fans a week during the summer months in East Texas. The need for the entire summer is over 1,000 fans, they say, and they are hopeful that the public will continue to donate fans throughout the summer to help meet that need. As temperatures start to top 100 degrees later in the summer, weathering the heat without an air conditioner or a fan can be dangerous for local residents, so the help offered by generous East Texans is much appreciated.

If you'd like to donate a fan, drop it off at The Salvation Army, located at 633 N. Broadway in Tyler. Also, fans continue to be accepted at ETR Air Conditioning at 4700 Old Troup Highway, or with any ETR service technicians. Their number is at 903-871-1450.
