A section of the Loop in Tyler will see major delays over the next few days due to construction.
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
Construction began Wednesday on a section of Loop 323 in Tyler, and it could delay your commutes this week.
A section of the Loop in Tyler will see major delays over the next few days. Two lanes will close from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Only one lane will be passing by from Broadway to Paluxy.
Construction was scheduled to begin Monday, but due to rain, the project's start was delayed until Wednesday. With the potential for rain Thursday and Friday, the project could be delayed once more.
TxDOT says the project is routine maintenance for the section of the loop that is starting to show age. A TxDOT representative said, "The project calls for us to grind up old pavement, hotmix, that is failing, cracking, and replace it with new hot mix." He added, "To do that we basically need to shut the loop down to only one lane of traffic in the direction we're working because we need the room not only to mill it up, but we need the rom to safely lay it back."
The project is scheduled to last about three days. They chose this week because school is out at the nearby Robert E. Lee High School.
