LINDALE, TX (KLTV) - East Texas may soon see another wet/ dry election.

Former Lindale Mayor, Jim Mallory has formed a committee to push for Lindale to become wet. The committee filed the preliminary paperwork to start their campaign to bring alcohol to Lindale. The group will be asking voters to sign petitions for a November vote to allow mixed beverage sales in restaurants and beer and wine sales in stores for off-premise consumption.

Signs from the last election asking for Lindale to stay dry can be found throughout the city, but Mayor Mallory says the initiative will only benefit Lindale.

“Today, we're not in a competitive business situation. Everybody around us sells beer and wine. Our businesses deserve the ability to compete favorably with everybody else,” he said.

In 2005, the last election where Lindale voters decided on alcohol sales, the proposal was rejected by a two thirds majority.
