RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas law enforcement officer has been released from the hospital after recovering from a lung transplant.

Lieutenant David Marshall with the Rusk County Sheriff's Office is going home from a Dallas hospital to finish recovering.

The Rusk County Sheriff's Office posted the following statement:

"David Marshall is out of the hospital and in his apartment! He will be there close to 3 months. He wants everybody to know how much this County means to him and his family and thanks for all the prayers and support each one of you have shown them!"

On May 11, a match was found for Marshall, and by the next day he was undergoing lung transplant surgery. He had an additional surgery for bleeding, but came through. Less than a month after surgery, he was out of the ICU and walking and talking again. He said his doctors referred to him as a rock star and a model patient.
