CARTHAGE, TX (KLTV) -

A 22-year-old man who evaded arrest Sunday by striking a Carthage police officer with a brick is now in police custody.

Jacorey Dewayne Williams turned himself in at the Panola County Sheriff’s Office at 8:59 a.m. Tuesday, according to a Carthage Police spokesperson.

Officer Brack LaGrone, whom Williams struck with a brick on Sunday, served Williams warrants of evading arrest and aggravated assault on a public officer, according to police.

LaGrone was on patrol Sunday when he saw Williams driving a Dodge Charger and conducted a traffic stop. When LaGrone attempted to arrest Williams on an active warrant out of Panola County Sheriff’s Office, a scuffle occurred and Williams fled on foot, hurtling a brick at the pursuing officer, according to the Carthage Police Department. LaGrone received cuts on his left arm as he protected his face.

Williams was also arrested by Longview police in April, after he admitted to disposing of a weapon used in a robbery on Beaumont Street. A 15-year-old Carthage High School student and two others were killed in that robbery.
