East Texas woman pleaded guilty to embezzlement Monday

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Deborah Cornett, 54 of Murchison, Texas has pleaded guilty to charges of embezzlement by a bank employee.

According to U.S. Attorney John M. Bales, from November 2007 to May 2013, Cornett was an officer and employee of the First State Bank of Ben Wheeler. While working for the bank, Cornett embezzled $334,736.43 from payroll accounts, the bank Christmas Club account, certificates of deposit, and from fraudulently issued bank loans.

The case is being investigated by the FBI and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathaniel C. Kummerfield.

Cornett will face up to 30 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
