AUSTIN, TX (KTRE) -

A man with strong ties to the Nacogdoches area has been added to the Texas Department of Public Safety's Most Wanted Sex Offender list. A cash reward of up to $3,000 is now being offered for information leading to the capture of Leo Colston, 60.

According a DPS press release, Colston, who was born in Nacogdoches, is wanted for a sexual offender registration violation and two charges of failure to register as a sex offender. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Colston has ties to Nacogdoches, Houston, Los Angeles, Calif., and Miami, Fla. He has been known to work as a laborer and may be homeless," the press release stated. "His criminal history includes indecency with a child by sexual contact, sexual battery, aggravated assault with a weapon, and discharging a firearm in public."

After Colston was convicted of indecency with a child by sexual contact for an incident in Houston involving a 7-year-old girl, he was sentenced to two years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison in 2002. In 2010, Colston was convicted for failure to register as a sex offender and sentenced to another two-year stint in a TDCJ prison.

According to the press release, authorities believe that Colston went to the Los Angeles, California area after he was released from prison in 2012. He may have spent time in different homeless shelters while he was in California, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

Colston "still has strong family ties" in the Nacogdoches area, the press release stated.

"In April 2013, the US Marshals Service issued a warrant for Colston's arrest for sex offender registration violation. Additional warrants for failure to register as a sex offender were issued by the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office in May 2013 and by the Los Angeles Police Department in August 2013.

Colston is 5-foot-11, and weighs approximately 270 pounds. He has a scar on his right eye or eyebrow.
