Parade of Homes kicks off in Tyler

The 61st annual Parade of Homes kicked off Saturday morning in Tyler, with hundreds of East Texans touring some of the area’s newest and most advanced houses.

More than 4,000 visitors are expected to step into at least some of the 30 residence open daily through June 15.

For many on the route, touring is all about drawing inspiration they can use when it comes time to build their own homes.

“We're going to build a new home,” said one visitor. “We want some ideas of colors and textures and brick and those kinds of things.”

One of the most popular home’s on Saturday’s route was a five bedroom Trent Williams house in Tyler’s Graemont subdivision.

“The master suite is just awesome,” said Rosie Trimble, who visits every year. “I’ve never seen one quite like that. The color schemes are something when you walk in, some of the rooms, it's just a peace and a calm comes over you.”

“I love the kitchen and the dining area and the living room,” said another visitor. “It's all one big open area, where whoever is cooking can enjoy the family and not be isolated. I love that. That was my favorite thing. Just the ideas about colors and brickwork and work in the bathroom and cabinetry in the house, some of the ideas were amazing.”

The house sits on just over an acre, which allowed for a beautiful backyard lounge and grilling area, as well as a pool perfect to cool off in during the hot East Texas summer.

It’s not just for those looking to build however. Many visitors, like Trimble, come just for the fun.

“You need to keep dreaming and every year we come there's something new, something unique that stands out,” she said. “We just love doing it. It’s a great outing.”

The Parade of Homes takes place every day through June 15. Ticket proceeds go to both the Kingdom of Life Academy and Rockin’ C Ranch’s Camp Courageous, which benefits special needs children.
