MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (KLTV) - Mount Pleasant police are investigating a 911 call placed around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, where a caller said they had just murdered two people.

According to police, the caller repeated the statement that they murdered two people, before hanging up. Officials contacted Verizon Wireless, which was able to ping the cell phone, and picked up a frequency close to the north end of Mount Pleasant. Police searched the area for additional information.

Mount Pleasant police say the phone was reported stolen a week ago, so they believe the phone call was a prank. If the caller is located, they will be charged with a terrorist threat creating a law enforcement response, and abuse of 911.

There were no reports of gun fire or suspicious activity. Mount Pleasant Police Chief Wayne Isbell says that all efforts are being made to determine if the call was real or a hoax.

KLTV reached out to Mount Pleasant Independent School District who said the high school was never on "formal lock down" but they were on "heightened alert." The students are taking final exams, and the school continues to operate normally.

An employee of Oak Manor Apartments, located on North Edwards Ave. across from the high school, says that police arrived Tuesday afternoon. She says that police went to a specific apartment where they believed the 911 call originated. Police knocked on the door, but no one answered. After requesting the key to the residence from the complex, the woman answered the door saying she was in the shower when police knocked. Police have since left the apartment complex.
