TITUS COUNTY - The Titus County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking Ryan Jacob Schmidt, who is wanted for aggravated kidnapping.

Authorities say on Monday, Titus County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call from Camp County Sheriff’s Office advising that an assault victim was being treated at ETMC in Pittsburg after being thrown from a moving vehicle on Highway 271 near the Titus and Camp County line. Titus County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to ETMC in Pittsburg and learned the victim was abducted from her residence in Diana located in Upshur County, Texas by Schmidt.

Ryan Jacob Schmidt is a white male, approximately 35 years old, 6’3”, 180 lbs., red hair and blue eyes, last known to be driving a silver Chevy Astro van displaying Texas license plate # CYK2706. He is believed to be in the Longview area.

The Titus County sheriff says Schmidt was transporting the victim through Titus County when the victim was able to get free from Schmidt and jumped from Schmidt’s moving vehicle in an attempt to get away. Schmidt was assaulting and threatening to kill the victim while driving on Highway 271. The victim, who was in fear for her life, felt her only option to get away from Schmidt was to jump from the moving vehicle. The victim survived the jump from Schmidt’s moving vehicle and was found by a passing motorist on the side of Highway 271 and transported to ETMC in Pittsburg for treatment.

Authorities say the victim positively identified her abductor as Ryan Jacob Schmidt and stated that if she had not jumped from the moving vehicle, she felt that Schmidt would have followed through with his threats to kill her. The victim told police that she prayed and asked God to help her, and then jumped from the moving vehicle. Witnesses, who were driving behind’s Schmidt’s vehicle on Highway 271 at approximately 75 mph, said that Schmidt was swerving all over the road, and then observed a woman fall out of the vehicle. Witnesses said that Schmidt did not stop after the victim came out Schmidt’s vehicle and kept driving toward Mount Pleasant.

The Titus County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Schmidt for aggravated kidnapping.
