Alabama State wins SWAC's Commissioner's Cup

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama State has won the Commissioner's Cup Award as the Southwestern Athletic Conference's best athletic program for 2013-14.

It's the first time the Hornets have won the award, which was announced on Thursday.

Alabama State also won a second straight women's all-sports trophy and its first men's all-sports trophy.

The school's teams finished first or second in the SWAC in 13 of 18 sports.

The women's track program swept the SWAC titles in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track for the third straight year.

Alabama State also won the league in bowling, men's and women's golf and volleyball.
