SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Whitehouse Independent School District bus was involved in an accident on Highway 110 South in southern Smith County on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Highway 110 and Meador Cemetery Road just after 4 p.m.

There were eight children on the bus, number 053. Paramedics checked them out, then parents picked the children up at the scene of the accident.

The road was cleared just after 5 p.m. and traffic is now moving in both directions.

Department of Public Safety troopers say the driver of the school bus pulled out onto Highway 110 and was struck by another car. The driver of the school bus was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.

DPS and Whitehouse police responded to the scene.
