Athletic Director, Football Coach Suspended

Quitman Athletic Director and Head Football coach Rick Porter was suspended Friday for allegedly making sexual advances to a female student.

The suspension came just hours before Porter's team was set to take on Hughes Springs in a bi-district playoff match-up.

Quitman is located in Wood County, about 35 miles North of Tyler.

Porter did not coach in the game Friday night. District officials are not commenting on the alleged incident, but say they are conducting an internal investigation.

KLTV spoke, by phone, with coach Porter Sunday who said an investigation will help clear his name.  He went on to say:

"My main concern right now is for my kids, they don't need any distractions."

Porter said he has not spoken with anyone at Quitman ISD since Friday, and has not been told when he can come back to work.

District officials expect the matter to be addressed in a special school board meeting Monday night. An assistant will take over coaching duties for the team.

Quitman defeated Hughes Springs 48-24 Friday to move on to the second round of the playoffs this weekend.
