TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A Tyler man pleaded guilty to murder on Thursday morning.

Earnest Deaurndra Jackson Jr. pleaded guilty to the shooting death of 21-year-old Joshua Robert McGill in June 2013 at the Kensington Place Apartments in Tyler.

Investigators said McGill was selling marijuana to Jackson and 19-year-old Ladarrius Devonte Warren, who attempted to steal it without paying for it. They say the men then shot and killed McGill. Two 16-year-olds were also arrested in connection with the murder. Warren and the two minors are facing capital murder charges for their alleged roles in the shooting.

According to the arrest affidavit, Warren shot McGill in the back with a Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun.

McGill's friend, Kristen Beard, said he was visiting her apartment on Monday night when the two men knocked on the door asking for him.

"He came outside to see somebody and then when he walked out, not even five minutes later that's when we heard it. I tried to give him CPR but there was just blood coming up. That's when my roommate Kyle came over and was helping. Then there was a nurse over here that was pushing down and then I was breathing in his mouth. I had blood all over me, it was the scariest thing ever." said Beard.

As part of Jackson's plea, the state will drop the capital murder charge against him.

McGill's mother cried openly in court when the plea was entered.

Sentencing will take place once Warren have entered his plea and gone to trial.

Jackson faces five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000. The state recommended Jackson be sentenced to 30 years in prison. If the court sets a sentence longer than the recommendation, the guilty plea can be withdrawm.
