CANTON, TX (KLTV) - On Tuesday, authorities arrested an East Texas couple who police say confessed to stealing hundreds of pounds of brass from several East Texas gravesites. Officials said Jacky Brown and his wife Ruby Brown fled the area last week after learning they may be arrested.

A tip led Van Zandt County constables to a residence in Gainesville. Authorities said they executed arrest warrants, took the couple into custody, and took them to the Van Zandt County jail.

Authorities said the couple confessed to not only stealing from at least six East Texas cemeteries, but to various other burglaries as well.

“They also confessed to, or he confessed to, the burglary of a jewelry store in Canton, Texas, and they also confessed to stealing some gas and gas cans,” said Constable Pat Jordan.

Authorities say the couple may have targeted several other cemeteries.

“Our intent is to probably come back up and pick them up and take them riding and let them show us the cemeteries. You know, when they get out there they may see a cemetery they recall,” he said.

Officials said the couple has been charged with state jail felony theft. Right now, constables are searching for other victims.

“We've identified some of the families of the people who lost things from the graves. We're just hoping that we'll find some more of the people so we can get all of our cases put together and present them to the district attorney,” said Constable Jordan.

Jacky and Ruby Brown are suspected of stealing from cemeteries in Edom, Myrtle Springs, Ben Wheeler, and Canton. Authorities are asking anyone who may have had something stolen from their loved one's graves to contact the Van-Zandt County Sheriff's Office.
