WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man drowned in Lake Hawkins in Wood County on Tuesday afternoon.

Employees at Lake Hawkins say early this afternoon, three people paid to go to Hawkins Beach just a few miles west of Hawkins on County Road 3440. Shortly after 1 p.m., emergency crews were called in to search for one of the swimmers who went under and didn't come back up.

The swimming area was closed during the search. Emergency workers recovered the body around 3 p.m. The Wood County Sheriff's Department, Hawkins Fire Department and a Texas game warden responded to the scene.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
