Proud Of East Texas: Henderson Sawmill

The 16th Annual Henderson Syrup Festival, slated for this Saturday, November 13th, is a step back in time to an earlier East Texas.
Norris Langford, who comes from a four-generation sawmilling family, has been looking for a vintage sawmill for the festival for years. He was eager to preserve the heritage of our area's first major industry for future generations. Although hundreds of sawmills had once dotted the East Texas countryside, time and the winds of change had taken their toll and there were no sawmills remaining in the area.
Just a few months ago Langford located a sawmill for sale on E-Bay. After numerous phone calls the owner decided to donate the mill to the Syrup Festival and even sent it on a truck from New York. The East Texas Antique Tractor Association has restored the sawmill and will be demonstrating it during the Syrup Festival as a way of preserving this valuable heritage of an earlier day.
