Woman with disability claims discrimination against nail shop

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A woman with a disability says she was denied service at a Shreveport nail salon because of a birth defect.

Whitney Brock says she visited Top Line Nail Salon in Shreveport back on May 2.

"Just kind of get dolled up a little bit," says Brock.

Brock says she first got her nails done, and then later asked the nail tech at the salon for a pedicure but was denied.

A birth defect left Brock with only half a right leg and without a right foot.

"She said she never had anyone come in and ask for one leg," Brock said.

We reached out to the nail salon for a comment and received this response:

"This incident was a miscommunication issue. Top Line Nails has serviced clients with prosthesis in the past, and never intended to deny service based on a handicap."

Brock said she plans to take legal action against the nail shop for discrimination.

"It could be me today, but it could be someone else tomorrow," she said.
