TITUS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Titus County residents are being targeted for a scam.

According to the Titus County Sheriff's Office, residents of Titus County have received phone calls from a person posing as a Bowie Cass employee. The caller asks for money to avoid turning off the electricity or for payment for a new electric meter.

The scammer will ask the victim to purchase a Green Dot Money Pak card, a pre-paid reloadable debit card. After receiving the 14 digit account number from the card, the caller becomes untraceable.

If you have been a victim of this scam, or if you have any information, please contact the Sheriff's Office at (903)572-6641 and speak with Sergeant Scott Widley.
