What's going on in East Texas this weekend? May 16-18

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - This is such a great time of year in East Texas, with the not-yet-sweltering weather, so get out there and find some things to do. When you do, you'll be supporting East Texas arts, music, food and business!

Mount Vernon:

Piney Woods Wine Festival - on the square in downtown Mount Vernon. Friday from 5-9pm and Saturday from 10am-5pm. 17 wineries that make up the Piney Woods Wine Trail will be there to let you try their creation. Admission is $5, tastings are $1 each. You can also get your favorites by the glass or the bottle. Art vendors, crafts, food, cooking demos by Chef Jackson York and live entertainment. Visit the website at PineyWoodsWineTrail.com.


Daniel Foster plays at Jake's Tyler (outlaw country) - Friday at 9pm, downtown on the Square (111 Erwin St.) - free.

Lauren Alexander will be playing at Cork, 5201 South Broadway, Saturday at 8pm.

Stanley's Famous BBQ - Oil Boom with Babe & Tennessee Jet. Friday at 8pm.

Lago Del Pino - Friday: Mike and the Moonpies (country) at 8pm, and Saturday, Chase and the New South (country, southern rock, and alternative.) 9pm.

Compassionate Friends Tyler 2014 Butterfly Release - Saturday from 1-3:30pm. Butterflies will be released in memory of all children who have died at any age at the 2014 Compassionate Friends Butterfly Release set for Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The setting for this uplifting and peaceful event will be the First Baptist Church South Campus, 17002 Highway 69 South in Tyler. 903-258-2547. www.TylerTCF.org

Aaron Ross Celebrity Charity Weekend - Friday, celebrity basketball game against the ETX best athlete badges, from police officers to military. Saturday is Brand of a Champion football camp for kids. Located at John Tyler High School, 1120 NNE Loop 323. 9:30am-2:30pm.

Winnsboro Rodeo Association's 54th Annual Rodeo - 8 timed and rough stock events plus mutton bustin', calf scrambles, and steer saddling. Wednesday and Friday free, Thursday is free for veterans, Saturday night is $8 but kids 10 and under free. 903-530-2297 for more info. The rodeo arena is on Wheeler Drive. 7pm-10pm Friday and Saturday. Cody Riley Band will perform Friday night at 10.
