Good afternoon! What a beautiful sunny day in East Texas...we hope you're enjoying it.

Here are some stories for you to peruse today:

1. A Greenville man is in the Hunt County jail today after assaulting an officer by throwing a knife at his face. Bond is at $409,500 for Melbourne Kym, III.

2. General Motors recalled an additional 2.7 million vehicles Thursday as a deep dive into safety issues at the nation's biggest automaker turned up more problems with some of the cars it built over the past decade. That brings GM's total of recalled for this year alone 11 million vehicles.

3. If you're looking for things to do this weekend (or over the summer, when the kids are bored) we'll continue to fill you in on where to go in East Texas for fun and entertainment. Keep an eye on our Facebook page called THE LOOP - ETX News.
Also, we have a page on our website dedicated to East Texas entertainment, food, arts, events, and people. It's found at http://TheLoop.KLTV.com. Check it out every day!

4. He's the most talked about seventh-round pick in the history of the modern-day NFL draft, but former Missouri Tiger and current St. Louis Ram Michael Sam just wants to play football. Now, his journey to make the Rams' 53-man squad will be chronicled by media mogul Oprah Winfrey.

5. Ten churches from Canton to Tyler to Athens were purposely set on fire in less than six weeks' time back in 2010. Two infamous church arsonists are explaining why they waged war on East Texas congregations in exclusive interviews from inside prison with KLTV's Melanie Torre. We understand that this is a controversial topic: Fear, Faith and Forgiveness. Here's part one, and tonight at 10 p.m., Melanie will bring you part two of those interviews.

6. We visited The Museum For East Texas Culture in Palestine recently, and wanted to give you a look inside: it contains more fun, weird, interesting memorabilia from over the decades in East Texas, including a vintage log cabin that you can get up close to. Look at the photos here, and plan a trip soon: http://www.kltv.com/slideshow?widgetid=113953&clienttype=generic&mobilecgbypass

7. Remember, now you can get an earlier start to your weekend news; Saturday and Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. we'll bring you an hour of news, including lots of information on the latest events around the area for the weekend, as well as your latest weather forecasts from Meteorologist Sarah Fletcher. Make sure to join Sarah and Kristen King for that new newscast this weekend!

Here's the link to our livestream on KLTV.com; join us there for the news at 4, 5 and 6 today if you can't be near your tv.

We'll see you soon!
