Brook Hill's Wally Dawkins retires from coaching

After more than three decades as a boys basketball coach in East Texas, Wally Dawkins is leaving the bench.  Dawkins is stepping down as Brook Hill boys basketball coach, but will remain Brook Hill athletic director.  Dawkins has coached the past six years at Brook Hill, winning 125 games.  Dawkins will be replaced by his top assistant coach Jacob Agnew.  Winning nearly 700 games in his head coaching career, Dawkins said it's difficult to leave the game of basketball, but he knows it's the right time.

"I've always heard if you ever think to get back into coaching, watch the losing coach," said Dawkins.  "It's a difficult decision. When you've done something this long it becomes part of you. I think it will be tough but I do think if you think about what's best for our players and school, it's the right time."

A West Texas native, Dawkins has settled into East Texas.  He coached five years at Chapel Hill and 21 more at Whitehouse, before finishing at Brook Hill in Bullard.
