Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has died. That word comes from a Palestinian official out of the West Bank. Palestinian Cabinet Minister Saeb Erekat said Arafat died early Thursday. He was 75 and had been hospitalized in Paris since October 29th with a mysterious ailment that was never revealed. The illness had been variously described as the flu, a stomach virus or gallstones. He flew to Paris last week seeking medical treatment and was hospitalized with what Palestinian officials said was a blood disorder.
The leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization triumphantly forced his people's plight into the world spotlight but failed to achieve his lifelong quest for Palestinian statehood.
