2 East Texans to be charged with felony criminal mischief for 'donuts' on football field

GLADEWATER, TX (KLTV) -

Two East Texans, one a juvenile, will be charged with felony criminal mischief after burning 'donuts' on Gladewater school's property.

Around 10 p.m. on Saturday, the two juveniles smashed though the Gladewater stadium gate with a pickup and left tire marks on the artificial turf. They also tore up some grass on the practice field at Gladewater Middle School.

The two were spotted by a Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden; officers with Gladewater Police Department located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, identifying the driver and juvenile passenger. They were arrested before midnight.

GISD Superintendent Dr. J.P. Richardson said the damage didn't look as bad as he expected.

"Preliminary numbers don't show it as bad as we think it will be. But we're still looking at what the cost will be to fix the gate and any sprinkler heads that were busted at our practice field and also any type of turf damage that we have," Dr. Richardson said.

But looks can be deceiving. Repairs are estimated to be just high enough to push the charge into the state jail felony category. No alcohol was found in the vehicle.
