Keith Combs wins his third Toyota Texas Bass Classic

QUITMAN, TX (KLTV) - One of the top ranked lakes in the nation, Lake Fork hosted the Toyota Texas Bass Classic this weekend. $150,000 in cash and prizes was on the line and an East Texan came out on the top.

These professionals have been on their fair share of lakes, but after coming to Lake Fork, its clear East Texas is the home to some of the best bass fishing in the country.

"I have a reputation in fishing tournaments by targeting big fish," Angler Jason Christie of Oklahoma said. "I come here and after the first day, I learned that was I wasn't swinging a big enough stick." Fellow Angler Matt Reed of Madisonville added,"We got great fisheries, great water, its just a great place to be if you want to catch the bass.

With the elite anglers from the top three professional circuits going at it, the crystal trophy is well earned.

"We actually get to be together and fish against each other when we don't get to do that very often, so its a cool event," Reed said. Keith Combs added," When you look at this field, I mean its scary."

But after three days, Combs of Huntington managed to defeat the field and win his third Texas Bass Classic.
"I just developed a set of baits and patterns that I really like and learned from growing up in fishing in East Texas and North Texas lakes," Combs said. "I worked that pattern here this week, stayed in my comfort zone, and that's how I caught 'em.

Combs caught 'em alright. He reeled in 110 pounds worth of bass. Now winning is always fun, but especially so close to home.
"You know to go out and catch big East Texas bass is awesome, but to come around home and see your friends and family that makes the win even more special," Combs said.

I thought we had some excellent work on the bench press, Anthony Pullins knocked it out of the gym. We had some guys really jump well, run well, and then of course catch and throw well. I think its safe to say Jameis Winston likes to hang out with East Texas talent. The Tampa Bay quarterback was in Lufkin Wednesday night with former teammate Jorvorskie Lane to help the former Lufkin star talk with kids and support his "Lane of Hope" foundation. But, earlier Wednesday, a picture surfaced on social media of Winston working out with Adrian Peterson in Houston at a training facility.
