Deceased woman found by Angelina Co. children was missing person

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Sheriff's Department reported a gruesome discovery Saturday afternoon.

According to Capt. Alton Lenderman of the Angelina County Sheriff's Office, a 911 dispatcher received a call about a dead body that was found near the Angelina River in the Rivercrest subdivision at approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday. Lenderman said a couple of children were playing in the woods when they found the body, just a few feet away from the river.

"The first call came out, and we thought it might have been a drowning victim," Lenderman said. Instead, they found what turned out to be the body of a missing person.

When ACSO deputies arrived on the scene, they blocked off a 25-yard radius area around the body. However, after they investigated the scene further, they determined that it wasn't a drowning and widened the area further. The ACSO deputies hurried to gather evidence from the scene before sunset.

"We determined it was not a drowning but a homicide," Lenderman said. "The body has been here at least two to three days."

The woman has been identified as 30-year-old Elisha Maxine Henson of Pollok. Authorities say that Henson was reported missing out of Pollock in late April. She had last been seen on April 27 driving her vehicle.

A couple of days later, on May 1, her family reported her missing to the Angelina County Sheriff's Department.

Lenderman said Henson had two identifying tattoos - one on each hip. Authorities used the tattoos to identify her.

Now ACSO investigators need the public's help in finding out how Henson got there and who might have seen her last. They are also on the lookout for her vehicle, a green 1996 four-door Toyota with TX license plate 073HJN.
