Victim of severe abuse makes miracle homecoming

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Only 19 Action News was rolling Friday as a little boy made a homecoming his dad called a "miracle", after horrific abuse. The child nearly died.

We saw four-year-old Yaneil safe and climbing into dad's arms. Weeks ago, we saw him in the hospital with broken bones, internal injuries, head injuries, malnutrition, and even frostbite.

He had lived with his mom on Cleveland's West Side. Police say the mother and her boyfriend abused the child.

Now this boy has come home from the hospital to live with dad and his family.

Yaneil's Godfather just bought him a bike, but Yaneil is still recovering.

His head wounds are still healing, and doctors amputated a couple of toes.

Mental health doctors are working with the boy since he's been through so much. No wonder the family calls this homecoming a blessing.

Mom and her boyfriend are facing charges.

The abuse happened even though Cuyahoga County child welfare workers had mom under watch, and her case has been open since 2012.

Yaniel's dad, Victor Soler, is still bitter toward those child welfare workers.

"They could have done a better job. I hope nothing like that ever happens to another child," said Soler.

For now, there's joy in things often taken for granted. Joy in just being home.

"It's a miracle. They wasn't giving me any hope about him. But he's alive," Soler said.
