36-year-old Tyler man identified as man found burned in Smith Co. backyard

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Tyler man has been identified as the man found burned in a Smith County backyard on Monday night.

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, 36-year-old Ryan T. Wells has been identified as the victim of a house fire in the 1000 block of County Road 495 near Tyler Pipe.

According to the medical examiner's report, Wells died from smoke inhalation and thermal burns. Officials say the investigation into his death is ongoing.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were called to a home in the 11000 block of County Road 295 near Tyler Pipe early Tuesday morning. Sheriff Larry Smith said a burned body was found in a detached building behind the home by Lindale firefighters, as they were putting out the final hot-spots at the site of the structure fire late Monday night.
