Cookout held to benefit E. Texas police lieutenant awaiting lung transplant

RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A hamburger cookout benefit will be held May 23 in honor of an East Texas law enforcement officer waiting on a lung transplant.

Lieutenant David Marshall with the Rusk County Sheriff's Office is at a Dallas hospital currently waiting on a lung donor. The sheriff's office is hoping to raise funds so David's family will be able to stay with him while he is in Dallas.

The sheriff's office is planning a hamburger cookout to benefit David on Friday, May 23. The cookout will be held in the parking lot of Bobby's Food Center on N. Highway 79 in Henderson. Burgers will be served from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A donation account has also been set up at Henderson Federal Savings Bank.

All donations of food, drinks, condiments and monetary donations can be made to Henderson Police Department Citizen's Police Academy, attention Bonnie Geddie.

David was with the Henderson Police Department for over 30 years. He became a lieutenant with the Rusk County Sheriff's Office in 2013.
