TYLER, TX (KLTV) - TJC will need to replace its starting quarterback before the opening of training camp. According to TJC athletic director Tim Drain, Apaches quarterback Matt Davis has verbally accepted an offer to play at SMU. Davis is expected to sign with the Mustangs soon.
The former Texas A&M transfer was slated to be the Apaches starting quarterback in 2014. The former Aggies backup, transferred to Tyler last August, playing in seven games.
During spring practice, Davis made it clear, his goal was to return to a division one football program. It appears Davis will get his shot in Dallas.
