TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
A Smith County woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after a witness reported seeing a small child left unattended in a car.
The Tyler Police Department said 44-year-old Lisa Tang of Whitehouse was taken into custody for child endangerment. Officers were called to Sam's Club on Loop 323 around 1:35 p.m. in reference to a three-year-old child left unattended in a vehicle in the parking lot.
A shopper saw the child alone in the parked car and notified Smith County District Attorney Investigator Cory Hoover, who was also in the parking lot. Hoover immediately went to the vehicle and located the child still strapped in a car seat. The door was unlocked and he removed the child from the vehicle.
Hoover said the child appeared to be sluggish and was ringing wet from sweat. Emergency crews were called to the scene and the toddler was taken to a local hospital.
Lang was found inside the store and an initial investigation revealed the child may have been left in the vehicle for about an hour.
Child Protective Services has been contacted.
The high temperature in Tyler on Wednesday was 84 degrees.
