LSUS signs Captain Shreve's McWright

Shreveport, LA (LSUS Sports Information) -

The LSU Shreveport Pilots added a new player to its roster for next season with the signing of Captain Shreve High School's standout player, Jesse McWright.

"Jesse is a tremendous addition to our men's basketball program.  He was everything we were looking for in a high school signee, and we are absolutely thrilled that he has made the decision to come play for us at LSUS," said LSU Shreveport Head Coach Kyle Blankenship.

McWright had an outstanding senior season for the Captain Shreve Gators averaging 18.4 points per contest while grabbing 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals per game while dishing out 2.5 assists each night. While he is thankful for his high school coach and teammates, he is excited to begin this new journey in his life, "I just want to thank God for giving me the ability to play the game I love, Coach Martinez for pushing me so that I can make this next step, for my family for always being there for me and loving me. And I want to thank Coach Blankenship for believing in me that I can play at the next level," said McWright.

"Jesse comes from a very strong program at Captain Shreve, and we know that he has already been prepared to move on to the next level.  Coach Todd Martinez does an outstanding job with his kids and we are confident that Jesse will make the transition to college basketball rather easily because of how well he has been coached throughout his high school career."

McWright will add some local flavor to the 2014-15 LSUS Pilots roster, a team that has thrived with local players in the past with Derrick Parker, Greg Shyne, Tevin Hall and Joseph James just to name a few.

"We have had a lot of success with local kids who have chosen to come play for us, and we believe Jesse will be another player to add to the list of Louisiana high school standouts that have gone on to have record-setting careers here at LSUS."

McWright's Senior Yr. Honors at Captain Shreve:  2014 LHSBCA All-State First Team; District 1-5A MVP; First Team All-District; Shreveport Times All-City First Team; LSWA Class 5A All-State Honorable Mention
