NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - People who want to see Louisiana's "Stand Your Ground" law repealed won't see state lawmakers take on the issue during the current legislative session.

State Rep. Wesley Bishop shelved his bill Tuesday.

It would have repealed a law that allows someone to shoot a person armed with a gun and claim self-defense, as long as the person claiming self-defense proves an effort was made to withdraw from the confrontation.

Rep. Bishop says he wants to take a closer look at how "Stand Your Ground" laws in other states have impacted shooting cases before he moves forward with his effort to repeal Louisiana's law.
