On Thursday at about 11:45 a.m., the New Orleans police Warrant Squad and the United States Marshall Task Force arrested Gregory Johnson without incident in the 1500 block of Lasalle Street.

Johnson, 54, is accused of opening fire on three teens at the corner of Josephine and Brainard streets May 5 at about 7:30 p.m.

Previously arrested is 49-year-old Randy Pittman, who was booked with three counts of accessory to attempted first-degree murder.

One of the victims, Miquial Jackson, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died at the hospital. His brother was shot in the leg. A third teen who was with the brothers was not injured.

According to witnesses, Johnson was observed arguing with the teens as they walked down the street. A short time later, a Mercedes Benz traveling the wrong way down a one-way street pulled up and stopped. Johnson was seen approaching the car and retrieving something from the backseat. He then began to chase the three teens and started shooting at them.

Detectives were able to identify Pittman as the driver of the Mercedes Benz.

The mother of the victims, Sabrina Jackson, is asking anyone who knows the alleged shooter to help turn him over to police.

"I just don't know if any parent out there can really feel my pain or understand how it goes with a child that you lose from gunshots," she said. "I just want the violence to stop, because it could have been more than one. It could have took both my sons from me."

Those who live at the corner of Brainard and Josephine streets described a terrifying scene.

"I ran out and saw the one boy laying in the ground and another one running around shot in the leg," said Central City resident Kelly Nezat. "I feel really bad for the young boy. He was just a young kid."

Another neighbor who asked to remain anonymous said she heard six gunshots right outside her home, and she saw police and medics tending to the injured teens.

"Oh, he was a baby, he was just the smallest little thing," she said, describing Miquial. "Terribly shocking to see someone that young get hurt, die. These are crazy things for a child."

Sabrina Jackson said she won't be able to rest or truly begin mourning until the shooter is caught.

"I don't hate him. I don't hate him. I just need some justice in my heart because he took a piece that I'm missing, and I hope I get some justice," she said. "Him being a young teenager, he had so much going for him. He hadn't lived half his life yet. They took that from me, and I hope I get some kind of justice and relief on my family because we do deserve it. He was an innocent bystander, and I don't think any child deserves to lose their life like this."

Jackson said Miquial never missed a day of school and was like a young counselor to his friends, always available to listen. She said he played basketball, football and baseball.

A memorial fund has been established for Miquial Jackson. Donations can be made at any Capital One branch.

Gregory Johnson faced three counts of attempted first-degree murder, but those charges will likely be upgraded.

According to online court documents, Johnson has an arrest record dating back to the late 1980s that includes aggravated battery and battery of a police officer.
