A single-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 Eastbound near Iowa has resulted in one fatality.
Louisiana State Police identify the victim as 63-year-old Carroll Gobert of Opelousas, who was reported missing earlier this month. Gobert was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident, which involved a dark blue 1999 Dodge Durango, occurred east of the Hwy 165 overpass, and authorities say it did not affect Interstate traffic.
"The preliminary investigation revealed a 1999 Dodge Durango was traveling east on I-10 when the driver, 63-year-old Carroll Gobert of Opelousas, drove off the right side of the highway for unknown reasons. The vehicle struck several small trees before being stopped by a larger tree," said State Police in a news release.
A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Gobert and will be submitted for analysis.
