TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The trial of a Tyler man, charged with murder, begins in Smith County on Tuesday.

Police arrested 39-year-old Christopher Wiley in July 2013. Wiley is accused of shooting and killing 52-year-old Rodney Walker at a home Walker was renting in Tyler’s Azalea district.

Investigators said Wiley fled the scene after the shooting and then attempted to take his own life. He later spent weeks in the hospital recovering from that attempted suicide.

Neighbors said Rodney Walker had lived in the house for less than a year. Walker's family said he and Wiley had been in a relationship for over 12 years and this wasn't the couple's first brush with violence.
