Teenager shot by Marigny homeowner faces new burglary charge

Updated:
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A teenager shot in the head after trespassing on the property of a Marigny homeowner in 2013 has been arrested for aggravated burglary.

Marshall Coulter, 15, was charged Friday for a crime that occurred on June 11, 2012.

The location was a home in the 900 block of Frenchmen Street. New Orleans police said the victims returned home and found the Coulter inside of their house. A struggle ensued at which time the suspect armed himself with the victim's gun, police said.

Coulter was also arrested Friday after being accused of breaking into a home in the 2000 block of Royal Street.

Investigators suspected Coulter in the 2012 crime, but did not arrest him because they thought he was incapacitated after being shot in the head last year.

Back in July, homeowner Merritt Landry was arrested for shooting then-14-year-old Coulter after he caught Coulter in his locked side yard on Mandeville Street. At the time of the shooting, Landry said he felt his family was in jeopardy.

Landry was charged with attempted murder. He has been free on bond since the incident, and the case has stalled before a grand jury.

It is unclear what happened to the victims in the alleged 2012 incident.

Coulter was booked for simple burglary for the incident that happened on Friday.
