Tatum Bus Driver Disciplined For Making Kids Walk Home

Some kids in Tatum ISD who normally take the bus had to walk home Monday, because the substitute bus driver refused to complete his route.

The reason: some kids were setting off an alarm in the bus.

The driver, who the district hasn't identified, returned the bus to the campus and told the kids they should call a parent or walk home. That is against district policy.

Superintendent Dee Hartt says that if a driver has to return to the school, "the students are to be under adult supervision, provided a phone call home, and not released until the parent has given permission."

The driver involved has been disciplined, though the superintendent didn't give details.
