LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A Spring Hill Independent School District school bus was involved in a multiple-vehicle crash Monday morning.

Officer Kristie Brian with the Longview Police Department said the crash happened just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of Spring Hill Road and McCann Road in Longview.

Spring Hill bus number HC-1 was traveling westbound on Spring Hill Road and failed to yield the right of way to a single-cab Dodge truck heading southbound on Spur 63. The bus collided with the truck, sending the truck into another vehicle sitting at the stop sign on Spring Hill Road.

The driver of the Dodge truck was taken to a Longview hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Spring Hill ISD interim superintendent Rick Flanagan told KLTV the bus, which was designed for wheelchair access, was returning from the repair shop when the accident occurred. There were no children on board.

"Our primary concern was making sure everyone received the medical attention they needed right away," said Flanagan.

Flanagan said the person driving the bus, B.J. Benton, is a mechanic for the district and was driving the bus to get it repaired. Benton was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.

At this time last year, a guy by the name of Dak Prescott was still on the draft board. In fact, the Mississippi State star didn't hear his named called until Saturday during the fourth round. Luckily for the Cowboys, Prescott turned out to be the hidden gem of the 2016 draft class. The NFL AP rookie of the year was in Longview Friday night for a fundraiser supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Big Pines.
