One of the most successful coaches in East Texas has reached the finish line in his coaching career. Bishop TK Gorman track coach Reverend Jerome Milton is hanging up his whistle.
Sunday night, Bishop Gorman held a retirement celebration for the longtime coach. Milton led his teams to ten state championships.
"It's mixed emotions," said Milton. "25 years coaching young people, giving them grace and pace, pride in their stride. All I can say is I tried to the do the very best I could to give them character and integrity, to help them cross new valleys, climb higher mountains, reach new stars. Now the baton must be passed to a new generation of coaches, students and parents."
There was a large crowd on hand to honor Milton. There were several speakers, including Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass and Congressman Louie Gohmert.
